1896 - NOW YOU SEE ME - 2017
More tales from a strange land . . . well Lancashire at least.
After 121 years of operation, signal box Poulton No. 3 will be demolished at the beginning of November as part of the improvements to the railway lines between Preston and Blackpool. Yet more history disappearing. This view shows the box, still with 74 levers and with the new lines to and from Blackpool on the left.
On the right is the old track to Fleetwood, which was the Poulton and Wyre Railway, part of the grand Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. Volunteers are hoping to re-open the Fleetwood line in the future and are trying to retain access to the tracks.
Extra shot shows Soon Be Gone . . . the not so grand Blackpool North No. 2 Signal Box . . . also dating from 1896, this is a 120 lever box. Network Rail are carrying out a massive upgrade programme to electrify the line, which includes the demolition of 5 signal boxes and the installation of 84 new signals . . . not the semaphore style of course.
