Two clocks

I had to call the changes for ringing this morning as our tower captain is still away.  It was a good way of getting the brain in gear first thing.  

I spent half the day repairing and reassembling these two mantel clocks. The first is a well made Rotherham clock circa 1930.  Rotherham & Sons was a major employer and manufacturer of watches and clocks and came to enjoy an international reputation. By 1899 they employed 400 - 500 people plus about 200 outworkers and produced 100 watches a day. The firm was started in 1847 by one of Coventry's most famous watch makers Samuel Vale. An example of a very similar clock with good details of an almost identical mechanism is in the British museum.


The second clock is a German Kundo Anniversary clock which supposedly only needs a yearly wind on its 'anniversary.'  It was in a bit of a mess and these clocks are always a challenge as they only work on a dribble of power and have to be perfectly set up. I believe I am one of the few repairers still prepared to touch them.  I actually find them quite satisfying.
