Jazeman Jaafar

I took this shot at the beginning of the day, before the racing started. Jazeman Jaafar was full of confidence, leading in the British F3 championship with only two races left that day to tie up the season.

The next time I saw him was when he was spinning out of control, before flying through the air, through the gravel trap, and finally coming to rest by the side of the track. That was the very first lap of the first race, and he had been hit by Alex Lynn. He jumped out of his car and made his way over to Lynn. He was no longer smiling. I couldn't hear what was said between them, but the gestures said it all! It was later confirmed that Lynn had a puncture and that caused him to lose control of his car and career into Jaafar. I hope he apologised!

So that left it up to the final race to decide the championship. Jaafar needed the win. However his rival, Jack Harvey, led from the front for the entire race and secured the championship. The underdog going into the weekend in third place kept his head down and delivered the results when it mattered.

Excellent stuff! :o)

And Jaafar wasn't the only who had a tough day. Yelmer Buurman ended up demolishing a concrete wall when his car hit it backwards due to an error by Markus Winkelhock. It took a very long time for a team of marshals, paramedics and doctors to extract him from the car. He was taken to the medical centre, and then to a local hospital for checks. News now is that he is fine, despite severe concussion and muscle pains.

The two cars were fighting for the championship win, in the final race of the GT1 season. Winkelhock, and his co-driver Marc Basseng, were stripped of their points for causing the accident, but took the championship win despite that.

And me?

Well, the day started well when I dropped my camera. There's nothing quite like watching a few thousand pounds doing somersaults through the air in slow motion as it heads towards the road below!

Then it started raining so I hid my camera under my coat and zipped it up. The zip broke, trapping my camera where it was until we managed to tear my coat open.

The racing finished late due to the delays in the GT1 race. Then it took an age to get home as we had to avoid two traffic jams on two motorways. Charlie was not happy with me when I got home! :o)
