Local Art
Another very full day, which included a leisurely late lunch at an excellent local Italian restaurant, going through the contents of our grandmother's hutch and trying to figure out which of our female ancestors had which china patterns, sorting out my online plane ticket for tomorrow (heading east to visit cousins), and more.
After the aforementioned leisurely late lunch, we enjoyed strolling in a park graced with several Texas-themed sculptures. I was tempted to blip one of the long-horned cattle statues, but the handsome horse and the two expressive cowboys seen above won out.
This lifesize sculpture, "Gathering Brands" (2017) by Antonio Muno, honors Eugene Oscar Beck, whose extended family were among the wave of Swedish immigrants who came to this part of Texas in the late 1800s. Six generations of Becks have lived here. The standing figure holds branding irons, used by the Beck family to mark their longhorn cattle with the family's "Flying O" brand.
