A slice of Lesley's life

Early birthday shenanigans

Jackson’s birthday falls on an inconvenient Tuesday this year so we had a cake and fizz gathering this afternoon with friends, godparents, an uncle, an aunt and a brace of cousins. Such glorious weather we spent most of the afternoon in the garden. And I hoped that the cakes weren’t busy melting under two boxes in the conservatory. Oddly it is not the first time I have had to guard one of his cakes against melting. Perhaps October is always warmer than we expect.

After a dog walk to Chiswick House most of the late morning / early afternoon was spent assembling the cakes. Peri has been supplying me with lots of pictures and intel and I had Anna to hand who has at least visited the bouldering centre we were recreating part of. All the bouldering folks made the right noises of recognition and appropriate comments, including:

- why is Jackson on a yellow, he could never do that?
- why have you made his arms so muscular?
- you’ve made him look a lot more flexible than he is in real life.

He was thrilled and has asked if he can keep his little boulder self....if anyone has any advice for permanently keeping things made of fondant icing I’d be grateful. And I should say other than the freezer as he ideally wants it in his room. Perhaps I should just make a replica from clay?!
