Merz Barn
I've been meaning to visit this place since 1987!
It's the third of the artist, Kurt Schwitters's, Merzbau. He was only able to complete one wall (now at the Hatton Gallery in Newcastle) before he died in 1948.
As I arrived, and slightly bizarrely, one of the custodians, Ian Hunter was burning a letter from Germany which was another funding rejection. He had taken it up to the barn to burn it and to share a whisky with Kurt by way of an apology for having done what he could to keep the place going. Funding for anything will get tougher I suspect, sadly.
I did my own little homage to Merz in extras.
