To the Riwaka Resurgence walking track - or in Maori, Te Puna o Riuwaka

Another back blip.
This afternoon we visited this inviting location to see where the source of the Riwaka River originates from a vast network of caves beneath Takaka Hill, located near Motueka, NZ.

The main photo - Sophia and Marcus mirror the shape of the archway which was erected by a local iwi.
The extra photo - my grandchildren discovered just how cold the crystal clear water is in this river.

From the Department of Conservation information board - Te Puna o Riuwaka is of particular cultural significance to the people of Te Atiawa and Ngati Rarua, who recognise it as wahi tapu, a sacred place. 
Early Polynesian explorer Hui Te Rangiora is said to have used the river’s sacred waters to heal himself on the way home from a gruelling voyage in which he discovered Antarctica.


Thank you for the comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s back blip. The treasure was something Sophia claimed from the sandy/muddy bottom of the inlet and this is how she held it up for the adults to share her amazement. There was no posing for this blip - I just happened to click at the right moment.
