A welcome newbie
I decided not to run the trap last night as high winds were forecast, but when Mr U&L came in at 10.15 he said it was muggy and still outside so I quickly put it out then, and I am so glad I did as this beauty was waiting for me this morning!
This stunner is a Pink-barred sallow Xanthia togata, a beautiful moth I have never caught in my garden before.
According to UK moths it is widespread and fairly common across the British isles, usually frequenting damp and marshy areas.
I can be distinguished from the more common Sallow by the dark coloring on the head.
I have added another shot from our photo shoot showing the dark head in extras.
