Guide to Scotland

A book rescued from a skip in Worcestershire, depicting famous sights in Scotland around the 19th century, aroused the curiosity of photographer Jo Cound.

She came to Scotland, got a grant from the Arts Council, rented a room in Killin and set about her research, locating and photographing the 48 locations listed in Scotia Depicta, one of the first tourist guides to the country.

The result is Scotia Depicta Revisited and I bought a copy of the book from Jo (pictured) today.  She has successfully blended the original etchings with her own photographs and it  makes fascinating reading.

Like many artists and photographers she has fallen in love with Scotland and now lives here- in a very remote cottage!

Incidentally I have had a photo removed from Facebook because of nudity! It was an image I photographed in the Venice Biennale. I can't post it here because Blipfoto also has a "no nudes"policy"but you can see it on Instagram.
