Children of Time
Well our two weeks in Cornwall, two weeks that I thought would drag, two weeks where I thought I'd (metaphorically) climb the walls, well those two weeks are almost over.
Today I had the stitches out - am amazed at the job Mr P has done, now it's down to me to do the physio and start down the long slow road to recovery.
The lack of really usable Internet and my growing disdain for the Idiot Box has seen me spend a goodly portion of time reading. Not in itself odd, but a luxury to actually read books of my choice rather than coursework or instructional matter. I gave up on Sagan's Dragons of Eden. Fascinating though the subject matter was (the evolution of intelligence) scientific thought from the 1970's already seems hopelessly dated. Instead I took a leap of faith on a 'Kindle Recommends' (as much to appease my friend I.'s constant discussion of deep learning) and tried the 2016 Arthur C Clarke Prize winner, from whence today's title is stolen. Whilst not great literature it pulled off an intriguing premise in chronicling the emergence of sentient spiders on an alien world, and managed to pose interesting philosophical questions about the flawed nature of man. I'd recommend it if you've time to kill.
It also made today's choice pleasing apt.
Philosophy Friday
Was also chosen to specifically match today's extra. Recuperating is never nice, doing nothing is hard for some of us, but Cornwall has made it far far more enjoyable than it could have been.
