The Vyne - Roof Replacement

Today a friend and I visited the The Vyne, a National Trust Tudor house in Hampshire, well known as a place where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn visited in 1535. The house is undergoing a £5.4 million roof replacement and the house is completely surrounded by scaffolding. Instead of shutting the house down to visitors during this conservation, they have made the project part of the experience. You can visit the roof and view it from elevated platforms accessible by stairs or a lift.

Today they had a session with the Project Manager from the company doing the roof replacement, which is why I specifically went today. He mostly answered questions of which there were many. It was all extremely interesting and I’m so glad that my friend and I went to see it. If you live anywhere nearby I would highly recommend a visit.

The ground floor of the house was still open - a few of the normal rooms as well as some special exhibits. There is also the chapel at one end of the house. The grounds and gardens are extensive and they seem to specialise in Dahlias - see Extra photos. I was stunned with the varieties. Along with lunch AND afternoon tea it was a great day out!
