You say tomato....

395 photos today so the choice of the blip was difficult.

We left Gozo in the rain to head to Malta (in the rain). Ferry journey was quick and efficient (for a car and driver and passenger worked out at £18 for the return trip).

Bumped our way over the roads - the EU funded sections are a joy to drive on! The others really test the suspension and the tyres.

Arrived at Mosta to find it shut at 11:45 so headed to Mdina or L’Mdina or Medina. However it is spelled or pronounced it is an astonishing stronghold packed with architectural wonders and with magnificent views over the countryside. Despite the haze we could make out Valletta and the other towns.

The Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul has the most amazing coloured marble tombstones I have ever seen. The extra is of one of two I spotted depicting Death as a skeleton. But this one - on the left - has him crossing his legs. Very nonchalant. The other close run blip would have been entitied “Chocolate Teapot” but it did display the work of the lacemakers.

The main blip is of the Dome at Mosta where we returned for the afternoon opening session. The cherub is on a lantern hanging in the middle of the Dome but I liked the effect of the head against the dome interior.

By volume, they claim Mosta is the 3rd largest in Europe.
While the dome at Xwekija - see blip the other day 1 October - may be higher this one is indeed impressive and for me has the edge.

It has the added feature that during the Second World War a bomb fell through the ceiling and skittered along the floor but did not explode, saving the 300 or so congregation. A model of the bomb is on display in the museum.

An early evening ferry back and some sights of Gozo by night to add to the album. At least it had dried up for most of our visit and we look forward to a few sunny days ahead.
