Mt Panorama aka The Mount

Our town's claim to fame is the annual car race which is held each October around the tricky circuit of Mount Panorama. For most of the year it is just another road where people live, however you can't get near it due to the crowds that start arriving a week before the "race" and leave a week afterwards. The town is at it's busiest. The closest I can park to the town centre is my place. There is a thousand people on the wait list for accommodation at one motel.

We will go shopping tomorrow before all the food disappears. On race day it's like a ghost town as the locals are at the race or gone away for the peace. I sort of like it, adds some vibe to the town and the characters that come are of interest.

The cars are V8 Supercars and can do up to 300k / hour down the mountain. Visitors to Bathurst like to do "a lap of the mount" but the police sit and wait for those who go over the speed limit of 60k/h. The big race is 1000k and they have two drivers who change shifts throughout the day. We often have stormy weather at this time of year which adds to the interest as they may have sunshine at the bottom of the circuit and rain or even snow at the top.
