Herring

Edited, as Blip initially ate my homework, and it was too late last night to reconstruct this.

This was delicious herring on sale at the Helsinki Baltic Herring Market. Having been initially sceptical about whether or not to buy some, suffice it to say, I'm now a fan. In fact, when I tried to find out from the stallholders where I bought this how long it would keep in the fridge after opening, it was gently suggested to me by fellow purchasers that while it theoretically kept several days, this wasn't going to be a problem. I can now see the point. We also picked up some other delicious products at the Old Market Hall to bring home.

It was a calm, peaceful, grey Helsinki Sunday. The flags were flying from most buildings. Not, apparently, for the Herring Market (although that's been going for more than 200 years), but in honour of Miina Sillanpää, who was Finland's first female government minister and an advocate of citizen participation. In view of the events in Catalonia today, that's quite a notable coincidence that Miina was honoured today in Finland.

In the evening, we walked across the way to have dinner with KK, and met a couple of other interesting people working elsewhere in the university. It was a very convivial evening, and its conviviality contributed to my fat fingers when it came to attempting to blip last night, so as a result most of this text is backblipped.
