Squash Bug Triptych
I think this is a shield bug of some kind, but I haven't identified it yet. EDIT to thank MsQuizzical for identifying this bug for me. I've changed the title accordingly. It's a Western Conifer Seed Bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis). Thought it is rather pretty with an Aztec type geometric pattern! I set it free after it arrived indoors through our lounge window. A good day to set the little critter free - on National Poetry Day 2017 with this year's theme of Freedom. Here's a new poem for the occasion:
How Free?
Free as the seed of a dandelion clock,
Free as a snowflake, free as a fly,
Free as a wave in a windswept sea,
Free as the endless sky.
Not like a bee in a spider's web,
Not like a servant, nor like a slave,
Not like a football kicked in a goal
Or a starfish beached in a cave.
Free as a grain of sand on a beach,
Free as a raincloud, free as a fish,
Free as a kite with a broken string,
Free as a fervent wish.
