CannyScot's Day

Colourful Stone

A dull misty day

We had a day out in Montrose, courtesy of a special offer of free rail tickets from Scotrail. The views from the train were limited because of the mist but it was a pleasant journey. In both journeys we ‘waved’ to our daughter in law, who works in an office in Carnoustie which overlooks the trains as they pass. We texted her just before we passed and she waved too - such fun.

After a spot of lunch we visited the well presented Museum where we saw this very colourful Stone. Apparently, in early times, the stones would have been painted, but due to weathering the original paint has gone.

We also visited the Williams Lamb Studio, dedicated to the work of the local sculptor who became internationally known. There were bronzes he had made of members of the Royal Family, especially one of a very young Princess Elizabeth.

We are looking forward to another rail trip next month, this time a bit further to Inverness.
