Leonard Woolf

This morning, Alan and I went for a bike ride to the marina and back.  It was a lovely morning and it felt good with the sun on our back, but we cycled home in a head wind - it wasn't a problem for me of course, as Betsy helped, but poor Alan had to work hard!

After a quick shower we went to the Abergavenny Arms in Rodmell for a Sunday roast, and while we were there, mum and I visited Monks House which was the home of Leonard and Virginia Woolf.  It's now a National Trust property, and whilst it's very nice, it's only quite small with 4 rooms to visit, but the gardens are quite spectacular though.

Virginia committed suicide in 1941 by filling  her coat pockets with stones and walked into the River Ouse in Lewes, and Leonard buried her in the garden at Monks House, beneath an Elm tree, where he's also buried.  The elm tree blew down and their remains have been marked by a bronze bust. I've added the one of Victoria to my extras.

The rest of the day has been spent with me ironing, mum reading her book in the Palace and Alan trying to set up mum's new laptop!
