Morning service with the very good people of St Peter & St Paul, Hockley, an historic, 11th century church (today's extra shows the church building). And here we met Frances, celebrating her 100th birthday. She lost her husband and life partner 9 years ago but says hello to him every day and, every Sunday, reminds him she’s not ready to join him just yet. Rarely have I met anyone with such fizz and zest for life and such an infectious smiling, laughing adventurous spirit. A delightful example of someone who is revelling in life to the full. During the service the church served bread and wine. After the service the church served prosecco and cake and we heard some more remarkable life-giving stories of family and faith.
Their vicar, Ken, is quite remarkable too. His study is an engaging feast of fine art, artefacts and visual storytelling true to Ken’s love for art.
All in all I feel quite full ….. full of life, full of admiration, full of respect and full of hope.
