Try to Contain Yourself
When the Earthquakes came along the the original centre of the retail activity in Christchurch got almost completely leveled. People were killed as wonderful old "Character" buildings fell apart and fell on the fleeing people below. The main focus of the area was the Cashel Mall and when the dust died down it was obvious to all that the retail concept of the area was in serious trouble. So the people involved got together and before last Christmas (October 2011) a temporary retail area was built, consisting entirely of shipping containers. The Boss had never seen this area so today The Bossess took him shopping and his spirits were elevated by what has taken place. This should be a tourist attraction as the wonderfully clever use of shipping containers in brightly painted colours now house everything from banks to bakeries and is a pleasure to wander about and shop. There is even a 2 story coffee shop and The B's had lunch in this cheerful and well populated area today.
Behind it all were the cranes and the background music was broken sometimes by the sound of jackhammers even on a Sunday. This area is still largely in the destruction mode but the container mall was a very uplifting experience in a sea of despair.
There was even an Apple Shop (local rep) where I was admired by a tech bloke. (I ride on The Bossess camera bag).
