Behind the Scenes
This is the view from the back of the Auden Theatre in Holt where they control the sound and lighting, mostly using computers. I went on a free behind the scenes tour today which was extremely interesting. The Auden is part of Gresham's private school. It was built only 19 years ago and the purpose was always to be a facility for both the school and for the wider community. The shows include school productions, touring shows and concerts. I've already been to three shows and thoroughly enjoyed them - and it's only a couple of minutes away in the car. It's a lovely intimate theatre which seats just over 300 people (the original benches have just been replaced by nice comfortable seats). Even performers like Lesley Garrett have performed here.
We were also allowed on stage when the house lights were down and spotlights on - you can't see much of the audience!!! Then we went to the workshop, dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms and the very thin and long room where the costumes are stored. If you live in the area and haven't visited the theatre yet, I'd highly recommend it.
(Apologies for the quality of the quick iPhone snap!)
