Wet dog!

Back Blip
Well, it rained!  And how!  The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway was super, narrow gauge, steam and great fun, but the weather was very wet!  We took the train to Dalegarth and then walked along to the village of Boot to see the Eskdale Mill, one of the oldest water mills in England and the last remaining working one in the Lake District.

It is amazing to know that there is documentation showing it working in 1294, and yet it is still turning, probably something to do with all the water!  It is in a beautiful spot, and I really hope it gets the necessary lottery funding to be renovated.  Currently they are installing a new water wheel to generate hydro electric power, and then they will be able to sell the surplus electricity to the national grid.

All the machinery and artifacts, the bits and pieces, photos and personal possessions from past millers and their families are fascinating.  An excellent place to visit.
