the last morning

with my little buddy, for a while.
We've had a great time, lots of games and stories and walks, but now it's time to go home.
I was worried but when it came to it he was quite accepting, seeming to understand, and kissed me and waved me off without upset.
I, on the other hand, cried all the way to Gatwick!
I think the hardest thought is that they are going off into their future and I cant go with them ...
But still I feel we can pat ourselves on the back, we gave the maximum support possible when her job and flat fell through,  we gave her the space to be the best mum she could be - and she is formidable ! - and to give him the best start she could.  Now we have set her back on her feet to go on and forge her own life, and it's time for us to get back to our own.

Having said all that we already have four visits planned between now and the end of the year, including a winter holiday together to Malta, so we shall hardly all have time to miss each other that much !
