The Rocky Coast of Maine

Dear Diary,

First, and most important, Karen got word late last night that her beloved Tree Tops has survived Maria!  The roof is still on and although severely damaged, the house can be repaired!  We were over the moon with the news as you can imagine.  Our "free wish" at lunch came true.

It was a glorious day, the Autumn Equinox too, with lots of sunshine and blue skies although the wind was really blowing.  We walked the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, a scenic cliff walk along the rocky coast.  The waves were crashing.  This says "Maine" to me!

We had another seaside lunch in Perkins Cove and then off to York, Maine...first to the flagship store of Stonewall Kitchens (a favorite shopping destination for both of us) and then to old York Village.  We spent some time walking through the ancient grave yard (I do love them!) and we found a very fascinating cenotaph. Four sons of one family who all died and were buried far away from their home town of York and were all commemorated on this one stone.  What a tragic family story it represented. We sadly have to leave this darling little cottage this morning. Karen will return to her home in Hingham, Massachusetts to continue the donation drive her husband and daughters are doing for desperately needed supplies to ship to her island to assist her friends and neighbors on the long road of rebuilding.  I am off to my old home town to attend my 50th high school reunion this weekend.  The adventure continues for us both!
