Runswick Bay
Runswick Bay is a hidden gem off the tourist trail. North of Whitby
( Look at it large)
They call it one of England's most beautiful bays.
The houses cling to the headland which protects them from the worst the northerly winds can throw at them.
In the 1600's a great storm washed away all but one house. Bizarrely it was the house of a dead man who's wake was taking place there that very night!
It is certainly our favourite place on the Yorkshire coast.
Today was glorious. A good bracing sea breeze. Perfect for a walk along the beach.
This is a great place for fossils, but I don't have much luck finding them.
The views in every direction are amazing.
After scampi and chips and a shandy sat outside the pub. (a fantastic view!)
We went for a walk along the Coastal path (Part of the Clevland Way)
Then on to Grosmont and the North York Moors Railway.
We didn't know it was a special steam weekend, and so were delighted to watch 3 steam trains come in and out.
The special day had included a lunch on the train as it went from Grosmont to Pickering and back.
It was just pulling in as we got there, and it was fun to see everyone getting off all dressed in their finery! Some in 1930's style. (Must do this sometime!)
A good journey back and a wonderful sunset.
So many great photos, but decided on this which shows the village from the other end of the beach.
Hope you have all had a good day too!
