Business Analyst Fashion Parade

Dear Princess Normal & Fat Pete,

I got up early today and took a walk down into town to pick up a few things with the plan that I would then take the cable car back up to the botanics and walk down to Aurora.

It was a good idea, as you can see it was a beautiful day in Wellington today, although I didn't explore the botanics very much (I was laden down with shopping).

In the afternoon, Er Indoors took me shopping for Business Analyst attire. It's pretty casual here in Wellington, but there are a number of dapper gents wandering about in suits.

And I reckoned I would at least need to wear a suit to an interview before surprising my new employer afterward by turning up dressed like a slobby b*stard and saying, "Ba ha ha! Too late! You've hired me now! I am in fact a scruffy little gobsh*te!"

But a suit. Ugh. It's going to be a hard adjustment. I have spent my entire time at Tesco Bank slobbing around in jeans and t-shirts. I don't know why I need a suit to be effective. I mean, it's not like I spent all that time looking at film review websites and listening to podcasts.

Oh wait...

But I'm still feeling impressed by how friendly and lovely the Kiwis are. In fact the dude serving us in "Barker's" the suit shop was English. But the Kiwi way of doing things just seemed to have rubbed off on him and we ended up having a good laugh.

The stuff you buy at this place is tailored to fit you, so this may be the first suit I buy that doesn't leave me feeling a bit like David Byrne in "Stop Making Sense". I'm making it sound very posh. In fact, it was pretty reasonable. Also they had an offer on, so I ended up getting extra shirts and trousers for free.

The downside to all this extra free stuff was that it took AGES as I had to try everything on so that it could then be measured for adjustment. I spent so long in that changing room that I started to feel like "Mr. Benn". On the wall, there was a quotation by Mark Twain which read:

"Politicians, like diapers, need changing regularly. And for the same reason."

- which made me laugh.

In other news, there was a "shudder" in Wellington today but Er Indoors and I did not notice it. It is possible I mistook it for a gust of wind of a big fart. How embarrassing.

S.
