Monday FunDay
My friends Shirley and Linda rode with me to Asheville, North Carolina to get more apples fresh from the orchard. We went to a different orchard than the one that I visited several weeks ago. We got an assortment of different apples as the bags could be filled up as any mixture of apples from the bins as long as they fit in the bag. So I came home with Honey Crisp, Ambrosia, Fuji, Shuzuka and Jonagold. Some are for making some apple butter! Picking out apples is hard work so we treated ourselves to a cold apple cider slushie..frozen apple cider! Yummy and refreshing...and the apple cider donut hot from the fryer and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar was delicious!
We left the orchard and decided to get some lunch before taking a walk at a park in Marshall several miles away. The walk is along the French Broad River but the park is on an island in the river so we actually walked around an island. At one time the Marshall High School was housed on the island but now it is houses several artist studios and a yoga school. There was a kiln outside under a shed for pottery. Very nice place for a stroll listening to the river rolling. There were flowers everywhere but this butterfly just stole the show for me!
The only bad thing about taking a day trip to Asheville and the surrounding area is the 2 hour drive back home when all I wanted to do was take a nap!
