Common Enchantments

Out for a walk

It was nice and cool this morning so we ( me) decided to go to a location where I have not walked in a while just for some different walking scenery.  This area is near Peak, South Carolina and the trail is part of the Palmetto Trail which I walked last Saturday for those 10 miles.   Today was only 2 miles!

The Palmetto Trail is a statewide trail that goes from the mountains in the upper portion of our state and travels down to the Atlantic Ocean.  Many parts of the trail are on the abandoned railroad tracks and trestles over rivers.  This location is part of the old railroad bridge over the Broad River, one of the bigger rivers in our area.     I have walked several sections of the trail with my ladies hiking group but there are still many areas that I want to visit and hike.  Most of the trail can be accessed from different areas so that one can walk sections instead of doing 10 or 12 miles and then have to do the return trip or have a vehicle waiting at the other end.   I have walked this particular part of the trail for 6 miles one time before in late winter.    I might do that again this winter and then do the return trip!   I think I can hike 12 miles on flat surfaces in cool weather!

Which for me is a better time for long hikes.   No heat and no bugs!
