XC Champs
Today was the day of the Lancashire XC Championships at Witton Park Blackburn. It was bitter cold with -3 degrees of frost over night. The previous weeks sub zero temps left the course as hard as iron and the course in my and several other peoples opinions was ankle breaking dangerous in the frozen rutted section. Cal (225) has been putting in a lot of extra training over Xmas and has been showing some good form. So hopes were high of a top 8 finish and selection for the County team. No chance of a team medal as his club only turned out 3 runners in his age group (4 for a team). In the race Cal was looking comfortable in 7th with 800mtrs to go ready for the big finish then disaster struck, he lost his shoe in the icy ruts. He gamely raced on but inveitably lost ground and finished 12th. Needless to say he was gutted. Reserve place for the County team though. He got back to winning ways on Monday 12/1 by decimating the field in the schools trials and is on the team for County Champs in Feb and hopefully qualifying for the Nationals.
