Office day
I had an office day at work today. I've jumped from one task to another in a rather disorganised fashion.
As our numbers gradually increase, we are running out of desk space, and since I only work part time, it would seem only fair to offer to share a desk. However, my desk is currently covered in rubbish important papers. So I started to clear it. I did manage to clear one pile, but then realised that, in order to clear the rest, I needed somewhere to put all these important papers (other than the recycling bin). So I started to clear some slots in my filing drawer, which is similarly filled with rubbish important papers, but some of these are so old that they can be safely disposed of.
At this point, I came across folders containing the documents from previous appraisals, and remembered that I needed to look at my PDP, and make some effort to fulfil it before my next appraisal (now only 3 months hence). At this point, my thoughts were disrupted by a meeting with my colleagues, followed by lunch.
When I got back to work, I started to look for stuff on reflective practice. This is something that we all do, but we are most of us very poor at getting down on paper evidence of our reflection. One of my PDP objectives had been to try to address this deficiency. So I was looking for stuff online about how to improve reflection. Found a blog, and a link to this video (on YouTube, so in the public domain, so I don't think I'm breaching any copyright here). An interesting video, but not really much help. Basically just saying - reflection is good, just do it! Keep it short, but do it.
Then searched for stuff about reflection on Doctors.net, and ended up doing an elearning module on adult learning which had a bit about reflection - but not anything about how to get better at doing it.
So I spent almost all day gazing at the small screen. My desk is still a mess. And I still don't really know how to improve my reflections (apart from by wearing rose tinted spectacles when I look in a mirror).
And it was raining when I got home, so no photos from the garden today.
