Nesting boxes
Today we visited a Zulu homestead. There were 2 main 'huts' one was the home of the first wife of the head of the homestead. She had 11 children. The other was the home of the second wife ( they practise polygamy) and she had 7 children. We were shown round by Justice who had lived there all his life. He had a girlfriend but he needed 11 cows for her dowry and he only had 15 so needed more so that they could have an income when they married. As each child became 18yrs old they built themselves a bedroom so there were several little bedrooms dotted about. There were several grandchildren and in the extras I have put 2 little girls who were posing for photos and wanted to see their picture on the back of the camera.
The main blip is of the hens nesting boxes basically made out of rubbish. It was so humbling to see them so poor and yet so happy. They had to walk nearly a mile each day to fetch water and the lady in one of the extras was 67 and was Justice's mother. She prided herself on going to collect wood every day beacause it was keeing her fit!!
