Hummingbird hawk moth

Back to work today, and this beautiful Hummingbird hawk moth  Macroglossum stellatarum  dropped by to feed on our flowering shrub right outside my window!
Given the circumstances I felt it would be very rude not to offer a photo shoot! however it is easier said than done as they are very fast and dart about just like humming birds, hence the name. This shot and the one I have added in extras are 2 of a handful of useful shots in the 250 or so I took.
The Hummingbird hawk moth is an immigrant species which on good years can occur in large numbers.
It flies in sunshine, and hovers in front of flowers, sipping nectar with it's long proboscis, very like it's namesake.
