Down Loch Long
An unpromising walk turned into a delight this afternoon, one doing justice to the gloriously sunny day we've just had (not to be repeated tomorrow, I believe)... We'd thought of taking the forest path from the end of GlenFinart beach, up onto the forest track that leads ultimately to Carrick Castle. We've not been that way for a while - Ardentinny on a gloomy day isn't worth the tortuous single-track road to get there. However, our way was barred by a red plastic mesh fence and a notice advising us that we'd have to follow a diversion because there was forestry work going on.
The path turned out to be at first beautiful - my extra photo is of the birch wood we climbed through - and then pretty spectacular in terms of the views afforded by the removal of huge tracts of forest. This photo is of one hitherto hidden - down Loch Long towards Gourock on the left. I've included the edge of one of the enormous stacks of timber beside the road - I've never seen such huge piles of wood. They were festooned in notices and red & white tape to discourage anyone from climbing on them and ending up victims of the kind of tragedy that must have made the forestry people even more aware of the dangers of these great logs.
By the time we found ourselves back on the shore path, we'd been on the hillside for two hours. Another good walk ...
