AbstractThursday114 Surprise!
The surprise for me today is that I've managed to post not just one but two images for this week's AT challenge. Both look as though they involve drinks in glasses, but the truth is that I used a vase and edible but not necessarily tasty ingredients to create these. The main image involves just food colourings and the second a mixture of quark and milk as well (!)
I'm surprised at my posting because today has been busy: this afternoon Mr MC had to be driven to a specialist eye consultant (can't see after drops are administered)to discover if his condition would need surgery, either very soon, later, or not at all. The answer is somewhere in between. We are relieved that no action needs to be taken other than monitoring. The worst case scenario would have involved no working for a number of weeks and the cancellation of our next 2 holidays.
This evening we were out for dinner saying goodbye to a colleague who has been with us for 23 years. A number of our team members have been with us for at least this length of time so it was both enjoyable and emotional to reminisce about old times.
The news has been filled with memories of the death of Princess Diana, 20 years ago today. for us this is one of our 'Where were you when...' moments: we were about to leave our campsite on the west coast of France when the news broke. As we prepared to leave, the staff at the campsite offered their sincere condolences and we were astonished at the emotional level of their reaction. As we drove up through France to get our ferry home from Cherbourg, the radio news was full of nothing else. When we stopped at Sainte-Mere Eglise en route, the church was filled with lit candles and photos of Diana. The television was taken over with programmes about her. When we boarded the ferry boat, free copies of the national English daily newspapers, filled with this news, were made available for free to all passengers. Truly an extraordinary time.
