Mabon in concert
Saturday at Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
During the morning I watched morris dancing and wandered about. There were lots of workshops etc. going on but it was lovely in the sunshine that I enjoyed just enjoying the outdoor music and dance and chatting to people that I knew.
Late morning I went into town where the band were booked to lead a pub music session. It went well and a lot of people turned up to play.
After a quick bite to eat I went to hear Jamie Smith's Mabon in a concert on site. They play traditional Welsh music in their own style. I've heard them several times before and they are really brilliant. Well worth going to see if they visit your area!
In the evening I sampled some of the other music concerts but spent most of the night playing in the English Tunes session led my friends of mine. I played until 1.30 am and as I was leaving I was invited to a "secret session" in a room in one of the buildings. It was invitation only and the plan was to play in the dark so that people wouldn't know about it. It's a good job that we don't play from written music! I worked out that I'd been playing in sessions for 7 and a half hours during the day and evening so to start again at that time defeated me and I retreated to my tent!
