A wild and blustery day on which I was fortunately only due to go up to the West End in Edinburgh; if it had been a Gateshead day I doubt if I'd have got far.

I popped out with a colleague for a warming bowl of soup from Hendersons at lunchtime and spotted this notice hanging on one of the fences round the tramworks. I think when this all started there was grand talk about a tram system, or even perhaps a network. After a while the talk became more muted and just referred to a tram line. But I didn't realise that it had come to this; they're now saying only that they're building a tram for the city.
