Due to crossing several time zones and not changing the date settings on my camera, I missed a Blip for yesterday, oh well!
Spent the night in Perth then picked up the hire car this morning and set off on the 370 mile journey to Kalgoorlie along the Eastern Highway.
The pipeline by the side of the road is carrying water from a reservoir near Perth to Kalgoorlie. The pipeline was the idea of engineer, C Y O'Connor, in 1898, long before the advent of long oil pipelines. During the building of the pipeline O'Connor faced criticism and a lot of people thought the idea impossible, especially as Kalgoorlie is higher than Perth - it was literally trying to push water uphill.
In 1903 the newly completed water pipeline reached Kal. The town is still dependent on an updated version of the same system.
See Blip for 19th September.
