Our kitchen bin-bag was so stinky that we did not wish to put it into the car with us next time we were driving anywhere in order to drop it off in a communal bin en route. So it had to be walked up to the nearest communal bin which is just the far side of Villa Caligula. Having reached the bin I could see that Kiki was giving her church a good scrubbing so I popped round ostensibly for a chat, but the ulterior motive was to get some interior shots which were denied me in February.

Kiki was in the process of cleaning her church because it receives its blessing from the priest on 6th September and naturally all her family and friends attend the service. We have always been invited but never attended. The neighbours have attended and been horrified to discover just how much of their private business is known by Kiki's friends. In Kiki's defence, our neighbours have never been particularly discreet themselves. If one is seen to be regularly purchasing large amounts of hooch from the supermarket on the high street, driving erratically and smelling of alcohol one cannot really blame the cleaner for making your drinking habits public knowledge.

I digress, we have no desire to attend a church blessing any more than we wish to find out what the village says about us behind our backs but I was very happy to listen to Kiki telling me her family news. Her son is currently on a merchant ship off the coast of Africa somewhere but he will return during September because his gorgeous wife is due to give birth in October, and that is why Kiki has custody of her son's dog because dogs are always kept away from pregnant women and babies. It seems strange to me that Kiki's first grandchild, her daughter Maria's daughter Eva is now old enough to be a fully fledged and uniformed member of the port police and yet her son's first child is still waiting to be born. I cannot imagine having a cousin 30 something years my junior.

Anyway, this is the interior of Kiki's beautiful church dedicated to Archangel Michael. I told her my mum's church is dedicated to the same chap
