Fun for grandsons

And for grandparents too.
At Haverthwaite station in the southern Lake District, Fairburn Class ex LMSR 2-6-4 Tank Engine No. 42073 prepares to take us to Lakeside at the foot of Lake Windermere.
Built in Brighton in 1950 it was one of the last of the steam locos built in Britain.
It ended its working life in West Yorkshire in 1967 very near to where I spent my boyhood.
Its most famous moment occurred in 1955 when it collided with another steam engine at Newcastle on Tyne. The other engine tipped over onto its side.
My two extras show details of the engine. As you might expect the opportunity was taken to educate grandsons about the way steam locos work.
