Loo with a view
We came home from a beautifully sunny Edinburgh this afternoon, driving, as is often the case, towards a dark and gloomy horizon.
It seemed likely that it would soon rain, so rather than be Blipping in a downpour we pulled off into the car park at Doune Castle and I took a few pictures there. Just as well, as after crossing the usual 'weather watershed' in Callander it began to rain in earnest.
Doune Castle was originally built in the 13th century and suffered the usual run of wars and skirmishes. Today, unfortunately, it's probably better known for its appearance in films and TV series, particularly 'Game of Thrones', which I've never seen, and more famously, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Various parts of the castle were used to represent several different buildings, as the National Trust for Scotland, apparently, withdrew their permission to film at their castles! It appeared in one sequence as Castle Anthrax! It's a beautiful building, however, and well worth visiting for its genuine history. It also has wonderful loos, fitted into an old cottage which look on to the castle across the lawn - my extra for today!
