Lest we forget

At Traquair Village.

The very frequently used quote is from Rudyard Kipling's poem "Recessional".     Kipling was often jingoistic and boastful.   But this poem maybe less so.

The tumult and the shouting dies;
  The Captains and the Kings depart:
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
  An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!

Oh dear, where to start processing Mr Trump's thoughts I do not know.   No "humble and contrite heart" for sure, for sure.    "Making America great again" seems to be a slogan in reverse.
