Hair Today Gone Tomorrow
It's just one of those decisions that once committed to, it cannot be reversed.
I had a huge lump in my stomach as I echoed my four-year-old's decision to the barber. We talked about it for ages, but I just couldn't bring myself to allow it -until now. If Alyssa really had her way she'd get a buzz cut just like her brother, but she was happy to be free of any length of hair if her Mom was really going to let her do it.
So I kept back the tears, made a few jokes to the barber (and per her wishes it had to be the barber, her brother's barber, for this to be right) and then whipped out my camera. I had visions that she'd immediately hate it and cry for hours and curse me for letting it happen. But she was thrilled. She skipped up and down the sidewalk outside the parlor, shaking her head, checking out how much lighter her head is now.
"I love it, Mama!"
That's all I needed to hear and I decided I really liked it and felt so relieved
-and joyous. My baby is growing, she knows what she wants, and she is happy.
