Mossyard

An eventful day yesterday. Firstly I found that the grass had grown slightly too long for the mower to cope, due to laziness and bad weather. The smoke and lack of noise from the motor means a trip to Argos for a replacement today. Second a little trip to a car boot sale and the beach with the dogs gave an ideal opportunity for a photo to place on Blipfoto.

But the real highlight was a trip to Glasgow to see George Michael at the SECC - complete with symphony orchestra. It's not of ten I go to such events. I tend to be more analytical and critical than the typical audience member, and although the whole show was very good I couldn't help thinking of the first concert I went to in Glasgow.

That was the equally brilliant Wombles about 1974 at the old Glasgow Apollo. I couldn't help thinking that the acoustics in the Apollo were much better. Especially the lower bass register which did not resemble music at the SECC - more like several trains rumbling close by the exterior, making the metal and concrete construction rattle in a very sonically-challenged manner and not really complimenting the higher registers in the musical range.

To continue the 1970s Wombles theme, the "modern"somewhat psychedelic projected 3-D moving and growing line-images which were projected onto the backdrop reminded me more of something between Etch-a-Sketch and Spirograph. Except for the scenes during one song, which bore a strong resemblence to the flight of Luke Skywalker along the trench of the Death Star. I was getting ready to release the shot down Darth Vader's exhaust, when I was drawn out of my thoughts by one of the many and constant audience movements towards the toilets and bar - distracted tremendously from a great show.
