Buckden Wood

The climb down through dark, steep Buckden Wood was one of the highlights of a walk around Ramsbottom today. In preparation for a forthcoming Superlative Walk, I had hoped to visit four of the sculptures on the Irwell Sculpture Trail.  However, due to bridge works, two were inaccessible. I did manage the other two - The River by Hetty Chapman and Karen Allerton and Tilted Vase by Edward Allington. The Irwell Sculpture Trail is the largest public art scheme in England.

Other highlights were the Peel Tower, reached after a steep climb up from the village of Holcombe, another attractive woodland below St Andrew's Church and a refreshing walk across Holcombe Moor.
