More dig dig digging

Ran out of bread again. Ah - shame.... so Steve was sent out early specifically for chocolate croissants and a chocolate donut and some more bread for breakfast ;-)

And then, because I'd forgotten to collect my (very urgent) prescription last night, Steve took the boys out to see if the surgery was open while I had a shower to try and get rid of all the cut bits of hair from yesterday before swimming lessons.

Turned out the surgery was shut, and then I got my times wrong and ushered us all out of the house half an hour early - thankfully Charley stayed asleep on the transition from wrapped up on Steve, to carseat - so we had time for me to go in to the pharmacy and ask if I could get my needles today and bring the script in on Monday. Thank goodness for friendly helpful pharmacists who know who I am - I don't have to fast from carbs tomorrow *phew*!

Swimming: Charley swam brilliantly even if he was a bit narked at being submerged so much. I need a new swim top. One that doesn't threaten to expose me when Charley grabs at it and won't let go or tries to climb me and uses it as a foothold. He kicked excellently, grabbed for and collected balls really well, and holds on to the side of the pool unaided now. Just need to get back into the swim of things now!

Ben swam really well too, they are being really encouraged to do free swimming ie with no floatation, and one of the girls in his class got her 5m certificate last week. Ben's not that good yet. He really tried but forgets to lift his head up out of the water to breathe because he's got goggles on and so can see underwater so he did about 3m underwater! Think he swallowed quite a lot of pool water though because when we got home it suddenly all came out and even took him a bit by surprise.

They were both shattered when we got home. Ben ate double his usual amount of sandwiches, and Charley fell asleep nursing for TWO HOURS.

When he finally came round we went across the road to the church's family fun day, where there was cake and toys and a gospel magician and a bouncy castle - Ben sat down to watch the magician's show. One of the first things he did was read his bible - but it set on fire and the other children screamed and pointed, and Ben shot up and stood bolt upright! It was all part of the act though :D He got a bit bored towards the end and wanted to go back to the bouncy castle: when it was reinflated he queued up and that was it until hometime, he just kept going round and round, up the ladder, down the slide, queue up, start again! Charley came with me to decorate a cake (chilling in the fridge, that can be his breakfast lol), and then home.

And straight into the garden to dig! Ben and Charley, so happy to play in the dirt. As long as they're together. I got them helping to dig out the potato bags as well, so now we have fresh bags to tend, growing for a (hopeful) Christmas harvest. Must remember to look at growing sprouts and carrots too. I'd love that!

Finally got to eat some of yesterday's chilli tonight! Seems to be the way to go - get something cooking that's going to take time, and while that's cooking, eat something you made earlier in the week. The chicken got roasted this evening while we ate our chilli and rice so everything smelled and tasted gorgeous!

Best quote from Ben today: Daddy I love you. You're my best friend. Charley is a fish.

You really couldn't make it up!!!

And to finish off a productive day, I'm up to date with washing up and laundry, AND got to strip the chicken before Charley woke. Steve found him crying and hugging Ben's leg!
