Learning on the Farm in Lusangazi
Malawi is a constant struggle and a puzzle. Regularly its impossible to decipher if you are going forwards or backwards.
Robert, seen here with Mary, has just had seven weeks with a laptop, having had about five weeks of part time training, He has got the hang of the solar panel, the battery, the internet and all the bits and pieces, miles from nowhere! Definite progress!
He has internet on his mobile phone and we have regular email contacts.
He has put together a lending library and does paired reading with the kids and is teaching their parents to do the same . Of course many of the parents have to learn first. Mary is his mentor and driving force.
All this is in his spare time. He's just past 20 and is only with us a year. He is the future of Malawi.
On the backward step we are sowing crops at the wrong time, in the wrong place and sometimes with the wrong companions!!. Since we use no artificial fertilizer and no chemical pesticides, sometimes we have too much nitrogen and too little potassium atother times. Sometimes we remember, sometimes we forget where notes are and there are many rants!!
I suppose from a standing start we are moving with Education, inspiration and challenge.
