Stripped bare
This was the handywork of our plasterer yesterday, stripping off all the old, prior to renewing. We had some rising damp, presumed to be cured by injections into the outside wall. The plaster under the window had a marked damp line, and in other places was flaking a bit. So it had to go. The bricks were a bit damp when the plaster was removed, so they are currently being left exposed to dry out.
Our house (or at least bits of it) dates from 1700, when a row of 3 workers cottages were erected. We now have something constructed by knocking 2 of the cottages into one, and adding several extensions. This looks as if it could be a bit of original Norfolk brick wall, complete with a patch repair under the window.
I do a double take every time I come out of the kitchen (to the left) and see the door into the porch with a gap between the frame and the wall. See extra
