Day 10

Day 10. Thirlmere to Moffat. A long tiring 81 miles. In day in 2 halves. Firstly, Through a quiet and mostly shut Keswick and over the shoulder of Skiddaw. Just leaving Keswick there was this woman in the middle of the road waving us down, it was Ailie, one of the girls we met in Slaidburn. We had a quick chat and she wished us good luck on the rest of our adventure, they are completing theirs next May. We did a lot of climbing in the first 20 miles including a "closed" road we managed to get through by Mr PB untying the security fence, and then putting it all back after us. We climbed up on to the magnificent Uldale Common and then followed a 10 mile downhill to Carlisle. Blipped here with Mr PB.

Quick lunch stop in a lovely traditional coffee house, found by chance on my visit to Boots to get more cold/heat pads, and then on to the border at Gretna Green, passing a wedding party.of curse we stopped and took our picture when we crossed the border. Then followed a long and dull ride along the old main road with the constant drone of the A74 motorway. We battled a strong side wind which felt more like a head wind. The miles ticked by very slowly. Then we turned direction at Lockerbie and we had a tail wind and rain. The rain didn't bother us as the wind lifted our spirits and we flew along. We arrived at Moffat wth a rainbow over the town, it really felt like our pot of gold!

We are staying in The Star Htel which is the thinnest hotel in the world! They are very friendly and our bikes are parked in the hotel front lobby for the night!
