The historic Marple Locks Flight completed in 1804

The sixteen picturesque locks raise the canal by 209 feet over the course of a mile. Once the railways became popular they fell into disuse and became dilapidated, but following a resurgence in canal popularity they were restored and finally re-opened in 1974.
