Eurasian Lynx

We've been to Newquay Zoo today, we usually manage a visit every year.  They have a new free flying bird house this year which was amazing and we spent AGES in there.  The Grosbeak Starlings (1st extra) were wonderful, particularly at feeding time when live mealworms, locusts etc were included on the menu and as some of these young birds have been hand reared they are quite tame and came and munched said mealworms from our hands.  Another favourite bird was the Black-necked Stilts  (second extra) I thought they were dear little birds, a little like miniature Avocet, apart from their straight beak, and they seemed to have double jointed knees, fascinating. 

I was pleased to see the usual residents all looked well as did the old Lion and his two ladies, the adorable Penguins (particularly at their feeding time), and there were more of my favourites as we walked round the Zoo;  Pretty Lemurs with babies, a large tribe of Meerkats and babies and a trio of young Otters having a great rough and tumble in their night quarters and then this baby, a Eurasian Lynx. The sign read:  The shy cat inhabits mixed deciduous forest in the Carpathian Mountains living at altitudes up to 1000 metres, and its favourite prey being rabbits and ,,,,,,,,, Hares ........  oh no, but today we saw him munching on some sort of a ready meal.   Not the sharpest of shots I know but the best I could do through dirty glass (toughened I assume?)!!
