Brutalist architecture

Popular in the 1960s, especially for buildings in universities, this style of architecture using grey concrete, and harsh lines was used for the second medical school in New Zealand. The first (where I was a student) was in Dunedin, where it was established in the 19th century. I guess the aim was to make sure that the brash youngster with the aim of supplanting the older more sedate Victoriana school in world standings, stood out as firmly in the modern world. 

I believe that the past nearly 50 years have shown that the modernist has aged far less well than has the Victorian. Even as I will acknowledge that I quite like the ventilation pipes and so on ending up outside and being seen as decorative.
